Jubileumboekje

Dit boekje maakte ik voor de zus van vriendin T die 50 zou worden. De binnenkant bestaat uit bijdragen van familie en vrienden waar ik bladen van kalkeerpapier (met daarop een doorlopende dikke stippellijn) tussen heb gevoegd. De voorkant is gestempeld boekbinderslinnen en een gekopieerde afbeelding op een doorzichtige overheadsheet, vastgezet met stoffen roosjes. De binding is semi-Japans. Spiegels en schutbladen hebben gespoten harten.
Ik vond het heel spannend om iets in opdracht te maken, maar uiteindelijk ben ik heel tevreden over het eindresultaat (en de ontvanger gelukkig ook!).

This book I made for the sister of friend T who would turn 50. The inside contains contributions of family and friends and inbetween I placed tracing paper (with a fat dotted line stamped on it). The front is made of bookbinderslinen stamped with sunflowers and a copied picture on a seethrough overheadsheet fastened with cloth roses.
The binding is kind of Japanese. Mirrors (?) and endpapers have hearts made with spraypaint.
It was very exciting to make something in commission, but in the end I'm very happy with the result (as was the recipient!).

Tweede leven van een vliegengordijn

Ik ben dol op koopjes (wie niet?) en dit vliegengordijn, bestaand uit allerlei linten, kocht ik onlangs bij de Bijenkorf (voor ong. € 11,- dacht ik). Ik heb de hele boel losgeknipt (bij elkaar wel 40 meter!) en netjes om kartonnetjes gewonden . Voorraad genoeg voorlopig.

I like bargains (who doesn't?) and this fly curtain, existing of all kinds of ribbon, I recently bought in the Bijenkorf (a large department store) for about € 11,-. I cut loose the whole lot (about 40 metres in total!) and wound it round some cardboard. What a stock!

Paperswap mei

Ik loop hopeloos achter met mijn blogjes, ik probeer dat nu met korte stukjes weer in te halen. Deze swap (thema 'kleur') is alweer lang achter de rug. Mijn partner was Kimberly van Numinosity beads uit Alaska (USA). Ik kreeg echt prachtige dingen van haar; vooral haar zelfgemaakte papiertjes waren niet te versmaden.

I'm hopelesly behind with my postings, so I try to catch up with some short texts.
This swap (theme 'çolour') is long behind us, it was in May. My partner was Kimberly from Numinosity Beads from Alaska (USA). She sent me really beautiful papers, especially her handmade papers I liked.

De vier seizoenen

Het estafetteboek met W, M en A is af! Vorige week zijn we bij elkaar gekomen om de eindresultaten te laten zien. Het boek zelf moet nog wel ingebonden worden. Nu kan ik eindelijk laten zien welke pagina's ik heb gemaakt.
Het was echt een cadeautje wat iedereen voor elkaar heeft gedaan. Het was duidelijk dat iedereen behoorlijk haar best had gedaan. Grappig genoeg werd er vaak voortgeborduurd op wat de eerste persoon had gemaakt.
Voor de volledigheid heb ik ook mij eigen 'lente' erbij gedaan.

NB Foto's van de pagina's in mijn eigen boek moet ik nog steeds maken.

The round robin with W, M and A is finished. Last week we showed each other the completed pages. The book itself has yet to be bound. At last I can show you which pages I made.
It was a real present to see what everybody had made for each other. It was clear that a lot of effort had been put in. It's funny that the first page was often the starting point from which to go further.
I give you a complete view of all seasons I made.

Note to self: I must still take foto's of the pages in my book.

Paperswap

Nu de mei-paperswap van Lawendula er al weer is, realiseer ik me dat ik van de vorige waaraan ik heb meegedaan in maart, cijfers en letters, nooit een foto op mijn blog heb neergezet. Ik ruilde met Laurie (ze heeft geen blog) uit de USA. Het was weer een heerlijke stapel kleurrijke 'goodies'. Sommige dingen heb ik al gebruikt in mijn flow-boekje (zoals ik het noem). Zie mijn andere bericht.

Now that the May paperswap of Lawendula is in full swing, I realized that I never posted a picture of the March swap, letters and numbers, I swapped with Laurie from the USA (she has no blog). As always it was a pile of colourful goodies. Some things I already used in (what I call) my flow-booklet. See my other posting.

De vier seizoenen

Eén van de redenen waarom ik geen nieuw werk op mijn blog heb gezet is dat ik aan een estafetteboek werk, thema De vier seizoenen, en ik niet wil verraden wat ik voor de andere drie vrouwen heb gemaakt ('winter' komt nog, overigens). Maar de eerste bijdrage aan mijn eigen boek, de 'lente', kan ik natuurlijk wel laten zien.
We hadden gezamenlijk besloten losse bladen aan elkaar door te sturen en er later pas een boek van te binden, om zo veel mogelijk vrijheid in het werk te hebben.
Je ziet hier de voorkant van mijn dubbelgevouwen blad en de binnenkant (drie pagina's dus). Achter de vogels (uit een kinderboek) zit een stukje katoen met verfresten. Aan de binnenkant zit een gedicht uit de verzameling van Plint dat hier m.i. heel goed past.

One of the reasons that I didn't post some new work is that I'm currently working on pages for a round robin, theme Four seasons, and I don't want to spoil the surprise for the other women ('winter' still to come, by the way).But I can show you my own work of course, 'spring'.
We decided to send around only loose pages and afterwards bind it in a book, to have more freedom in filling the pages.
You can see here the front of my folded page and the inside of it (so three pages). Behind the birds (from a childrensbook) is a piece of cotton with paintremnants on it. On the inside there's a found poem that fitted very well, I thought.

Mijn 'werkruimte'

Om niet de indruk te geven dat ik dit blog volledig verlaten heb, zet ik er maar eens een paar foto's van de plek waar ik werk op. Lekker volgestouwd. Het grappige is dat ik vaak plaatjes en stukjes papier gebruik die links op mijn tafel op een wanordelijke hoop liggen, terwijl in de kast rechts alles netjes weggewerkt is (plaatjes op thema, papier op kleur). Blijkbaar inspireert de troep meer ...

Because I don't want to give the impression that I abandoned this blog totally, I will post a few pictures of my workspace. Rather cramped it is. The funny thing is that I usually use papersnippets and pictures that are on the pile left on the table, whereas in the bookcase on the right everything is neatly stashed (pictures on theme, papers on colour). Apparently a mess is more inspirational ...

Collage box-project

Lawendula had weer een nieuw plan: een doos met 144 collage-ingrediënten over de hele wereld rondsturen; iedereen (de 30 deelnemers) die de doos ontvangt, haalt er 12 dingetjes uit, stopt er weer 12 dingetjes in en stuurt de doos door naar de volgende.

Mijn keuze viel op de dingen hieronder die vanzelf in deze vorm gingen liggen. :-) (Het zijn er trouwens 14, dus ik heb ook 14 papiertjes teruggestopt.)

Lawendula had another plan: sending a box with 144 collage-ingredients around the world; everyone (30 contestents) who receives the box, takes 12 things out, puts 12 things back in it and sends it on to the next person on the list.

You can see my choice in the photo below. They fell in place just like that :-). (There are 14 things on the table, so I put 14 things back in the box.)



Maar dan, op zich zijn ze allemaal leuk, maar ze moeten ook nog samen een collage gaan vormen. Ik besloot om er een pagina in mijn MAM-journal van te maken en als vanzelf vielen de stukjes op hun plaats (letterlijk). Alleen het bruin/groene rondje heb ik niet kunnen gebruiken, dus dat ging weer terug in de doos.

But then, what comes next is that all things that are seperately very cute have to form a collage together. I decided to make a page in my MAM-journal and (literally) the pieces fell together. Only the brown/green circle I didn't use so I put that back in the box.

Om blij van te worden

De zon schijnt en ik ben blij, blij met mijn papierklemmetjes die ik in Deventer heb gekocht, bij het Kruidvat voor maar € 1,49 voor tien stuks. Wat kan het leven toch heerlijk zijn!

The sun is shining and I'm happy, happy with my binder clips that I bought in Deventer, at Kruidvat for only € 1,49 for ten pieces. Life can be great!
